Vibration Absorber Expansion Joints
Stainless-steel bellows on loose flanges that decouple a pump, compressor or engine from the connected pipework — absorbing the vibration and structure-borne noise that rigid connections transmit into the line and supports.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a vibration absorber expansion joint do?
It sits between a machine and its piping to isolate vibration and noise, and to take up minor misalignment and thermal movement — protecting connected valves, instruments and joints from fatigue.
Is a vibration absorber the same as a braided metal hose?
No. A vibration absorber is a formed-bellows unit with a fixed length, engineered to damp vibration and small movement, whereas a braided hose is designed mainly for flexible routing and larger deflection. TOTFLEX supplies both, chosen to the duty.
Why are tie or limit rods fitted?
Pump and compressor connections create pressure thrust that would try to stretch the bellows. Tie or limit rods restrain that thrust, hold the joint at its set length and prevent over-extension, while still allowing vibration-damping movement.
Where is it installed on a pump?
Typically at the suction and/or discharge flange, as close to the pump as practical, so vibration is intercepted before it enters the line.
What movements does it absorb?
Small multi-directional movement — modest axial, lateral and angular — combined with high-frequency vibration damping. It is not intended for the large thermal movements that axial or loop-type joints handle.
What materials and sizes are available?
Stainless-steel bellows (304 / 316L) with carbon or stainless flanges, from DN25 upward, each unit sized to the pump duty and connection standard.
