Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rubber fuel hose used for?

A rubber fuel hose transfers fuels and mineral oils — diesel, petrol, kerosene and lubricating oils — between tanks, pumps, tankers and machines. Its nitrile lining resists the swelling and softening that fuels cause in ordinary rubber.

Why is nitrile (NBR) used for fuel hoses?

Nitrile rubber has excellent resistance to mineral oils and fuels, so it stays dimensionally stable and does not degrade in contact with diesel, petrol or oil. That makes it the standard tube compound for fuel and oil hoses.

What is an anti-static or bonded fuel hose?

An anti-static fuel hose is electrically continuous from end to end, usually through an embedded bonding wire or conductive layer. It carries away the static charge that flowing fuel generates, reducing the risk of an ignition source during transfer.

What is the difference between a fuel delivery hose and a suction hose?

A delivery hose is textile-reinforced to hold the pump's discharge pressure. A suction (S&D) hose has an embedded steel wire helix so it resists vacuum and does not collapse when drawing fuel from a tank or tanker.

Can one fuel hose handle both diesel and petrol?

Nitrile-lined hoses suit diesel, petrol and many mineral oils, but the right grade depends on the fuel's aromatic content and the pressure and static duty. Tell TOTFLEX which fuels you handle and we will specify a suitable construction.
