Frequently Asked Questions

How is it different from an electrical level switch?

It does the same job — high/low alarm, cut-out, pump control — but switches a pneumatic signal instead of an electrical contact. That removes any ignition source at the measuring point and lets it work without mains power.

Why use one in a hazardous area?

It carries no voltage and makes no electrical contact at the process connection, so it introduces no spark risk into a flammable atmosphere.

Does it need an air supply?

Some designs run on a small supply of clean, dry, filtered instrument air through a filter-regulator; others simply switch the air path. The air requirement is confirmed for the design selected.

What can the output drive?

The two-state air signal can pilot an air-actuated control or shut-off valve, trip a pneumatic alarm, or feed a larger air relay controlling a pump or process.

Can it handle dirty or corrosive liquids?

Yes — a dip-tube design keeps the liquid off the switching element, and wetted parts can be stainless steel or special alloys.

Can it act on both high and low level?

Yes — multiple set points can be configured, for example a high-level shut-off plus a low-level cut-out from one installation.
