How does a cable float switch work?
It hangs from its cable and is anchored at one point. As the liquid rises, the float tilts up; as it falls, the float tilts down. The change of angle operates an internal micro-switch or reed contact that controls a pump or alarm.
How do I set the switching level?
By where you anchor the float on the cable and how much free cable you allow. A longer free length gives a wider gap between switch-on and switch-off; a shorter length gives a tighter band.
Can it control a pump automatically?
Yes. In a pump-down setup it starts the pump on high level and stops it on low; in a pump-up setup the logic is reversed. Multiple floats can give independent start, stop and high/low alarm actions.
Is it suitable for sewage and dirty water?
Yes. The sealed, corrosion-resistant polypropylene float is well suited to wastewater, sewage and drainage, which is a primary application for this switch.
How many floats do I need in a sump?
A simple pump uses one; a typical arrangement uses two or three to separate start, stop and high-level alarm. TOTFLEX will advise based on your pump and sump.
Are the floats submersible?
Yes. They are sealed for immersion and continue to switch reliably when fully covered by the liquid.
