Frequently Asked Questions

What is a vacuum hose?

A vacuum hose is a flexible metal hose built to resist collapse under negative (suction) pressure, keeping its bore open on vacuum, suction and evacuation lines.

How does a vacuum hose avoid collapsing?

Its corrugated stainless core has high hoop strength, and a reinforcing wire braid can be added, so the wall withstands the inward atmospheric load that would crush an ordinary hose.

When is a braid needed on a vacuum hose?

For full vacuum, larger diameters or higher temperatures, where the corrugation profile alone may not resist collapse. TOTFLEX specifies the reinforcement for each duty.

Can a vacuum hose also handle positive pressure?

Yes — a suitably built vacuum hose handles both negative and positive pressure. Tell us both the vacuum level and any positive-pressure duty so we can rate it correctly.

What temperatures can a metal vacuum hose handle?

The stainless construction handles cryogenic temperatures up to roughly 600 °C, and higher with special grades — well beyond the range of rubber or plastic vacuum hose.

Does TOTFLEX test vacuum hoses before delivery?

Yes — vacuum and leak testing, plus NDT and EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, are available on request.
